The Late Mrs. Mona El Degwi
The late Mrs. Mona El Degwi was not only an accomplished educator and leader, she was a woman of remarkable warmth, generosity, and strength whose presence illuminated every place she touched. Her journey began as a student in the American University in Cairo, where she graduated with a double major in Mass Communication and Business Administration and a minor in Child Psychology. Even as a young woman, her path was guided by a deep love for learning and an innate understanding of children, an understanding that would later define her life’s work. She went on to pursue her MBA, further building the knowledge she would pour into her schools, her community, and her family.
Following in the footsteps of her beloved mother, the pioneering Dr. Nawal El Degwi, Mrs. Mona embraced the mission of education with her whole heart. In 1981, she stepped into the leadership of the Baby Home School, a place that became the embodiment of her philosophy: that children flourish when they are nurtured, loved, and believed in. For decades, she transformed the school into a second home, not just for students, but for teachers and parents who found comfort in her warmth, her fairness, and her presence.
Her vision was expansive, and her passion was tireless. In 2003, she founded the Elementary American System, opening a new door for countless young learners. By 2009, she was leading the British and American Middle and High School divisions, guiding older students through transformative years with a blend of strength, wisdom, and motherly care.
Her dream continued to grow, and in 2021, she founded the International Kingdom College (IKC); a british school built not only on educational excellence, but on love, values, and hope for a bright future.
Beyond her schools, Mrs. Mona El Degwi brought her insight and humanity to higher education as a respected board member at the MSA University. Everywhere she served, she was known for her compassion, her humility, and her ability to listen deeply.
But perhaps her greatest legacy lies not only in the institutions she built, but in the lives she touched. Generations of children grew up under her gentle guidance. Families trusted her, teachers admired her, and those who worked beside her knew they were in the presence of a woman who led with her heart.
Her passing in 2025 left a profound ache in the hearts of those who loved her. Yet her spirit continues to live vividly in every school she led, every dream she encouraged, and every young life she helped shape. Her legacy is one of love; quiet, steady, and powerful enough to outlive a lifetime.
Mrs. Mona El Degwi will forever be remembered as a visionary leader and a beacon of grace whose impact continues to shine in the community she devoted her life to.
